The Segundino chiselmaker Mariano Canfranc Lucea will exhibit his work at the "Antonio Pérez" Art Space of the Guadalajara Provincial Council starting next Tuesday, December 18, as part of the "Plastic Arts in the Bicentennial" campaign launched by the Provincial Institution's Culture Service. Born Sigüenza in 1947, he studied at the School of Applied Arts and Artistic Crafts in Madrid, where he obtained an "Extraordinary Award", he considers himself self-taught in the art of chiseling. He is in possession of numerous distinctions and prizes. His work appears in different museums and institutions, and he has had numerous individual and collective exhibitions. His first exhibition in the capital dates back to 1974 by the Caja Provincial, which then used the former exhibition hall of the Diputación located on the ground floor of the Provincial Palace. Thirty-eight years after that first appearance, "it is time to close one cycle to start another," he assures the artist in his presentation catalogue. Since 1975 he has been working exclusively on the art of chiseling in the exhibition workshop that he maintains in Sigüenza. In his long career he has gone through different artistic stages, as will surely be seen in the exhibition, which will be made up of more than fifty works of different themes, formats and styles; among them even some creations in which he incorporates oil paints into his chiseling to give them greater light and color.
